How DSC renewal works
A Digital Signature Certificate can’t be extended once it is issued. “Renewing” a DSC means getting a new certificate for a fresh 1, 2 or 3 years, with the same verification process as the first time.
- Check your expiry date. Open your token’s utility, or check the DSC details on the portal where it is registered.
- Apply 7–10 days before expiry so you don’t miss a filing deadline.
- Reuse your token if it is a FIPS 140‑3 token. FIPS 140‑2 tokens were discontinued from 21 September 2026, so older tokens need replacing.
- Register the new DSC on every portal you use: Income Tax, GST, MCA, EPFO, ICEGATE and tender portals.
Before you renew
- Expired DSCs can’t sign anything, but you can apply for a new one at any time with no penalty.
- If your name, organisation or role has changed, update your documents first.
- We help re-register the new DSC on your portals over remote desktop.
Documents required
- Same documents as a new DSC: Aadhaar or PAN, mobile and email
- Organisation documents and authorisation letter, for an organisation DSC
- Your existing USB token, if it is FIPS 140‑3 compatible
